Testing and Screening

What is testing and screening?

Testing and screening are preventive measures that can detect potentially serious health problems early on before they present symptoms. Laboratory tests and screens take samples of bodily fluids or tissue –– like blood, urine, or hair –– and then analyze them. The information that testing and screening provide helps Lilian and the team diagnose and treat various issues.

What are the types of testing and screening?

Lilian and the team offer several types of testing and screening, including:

COVID-19 testing

COVID-19 testing uses a nasal or throat swab to detect the novel coronavirus. Lilian doesn’t offer COVID-19 testing on-site, but she can refer you to a laboratory that does nearby.

Complete blood count (CBC)

A complete blood count analyzes a sample of your blood for the presence of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Abnormal readings can indicate various health problems, including nutritional deficiencies, cancer, or certain heart conditions.

Thyroid panel

A thyroid panel is a laboratory test that assesses the function of the thyroid gland. It determines if your thyroid produces and reacts to certain hormones like thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroxine.

Lipid panel

A lipid panel checks your blood for the two types of cholesterol –– LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, and HDL, or “good” cholesterol. To ensure accurate results, it’s important to fast for at least eight hours before this test.

HIV testing

HIV testing takes a sample of your blood to determine if you have HIV, a chronic and potentially life-threatening STD. Thanks to advances in medication and therapy, it’s possible to live a long and healthy life, even if you have HIV.

STD testing

STD testing analyzes your urine or blood for the presence of sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis, herpes, or gonorrhea. If you regularly have sex with multiple partners, it’s important to undergo STD testing regularly.

What types of testing and screening are right for me?

To determine the types of testing and screening that will most benefit you, Lilian and the team conduct a physical exam and ask about your lifestyle and symptoms. Once they gather the necessary information, Lilian and the team can make recommendations that align with your needs.
